Life in Dallas

Ok, so I've been super lazy and unmotivated to post anything new lately. I have so much going through my head during the day I could crank out a million posts but it took some energy for me to get on here today.

Life in Dallas so far is pretty good. I'm STILL looking for a job. Ridiculous, or as I should say my new favorite word, Ridonkulous. I've been applying around to different places with no luck. Yesterday my mom and I were going through my dad's extremely messy and cluttered office and came open this mailer..you know, the one's with about 100 different ads ranging from garage maintenance to Chinese takeaway. I found one for a grooming salon literally four minutes from my house, and what do you know, they're hiring. I get to go see them tomorrow around noon. I'm really excited since I've been working on Juno and Ruby's grooms for almost a year now...if I could get professionally trained it would be awesome. I know it's not going to be easy and the pay is going to suck, but at least I get to do something I've always wanted to learn. Plus the bonus is that when it gets cooler, I can ride my bike to work.

Anyway, it seems like the hits keep on coming in my life. Some days I'm exceptionally happy with my life, other days I'm depressed. I like being close to my family but at the same time I miss having my own life, living alone, making my own money, and having my own place. I know I will be there in due time but I'm just ready to feel like I'm living again.

The Air Force board is next month so I should find out in September if I'm accepted. I've already talked to an Army recruiter as a back up plan and they told me I'm pretty much guaranteed to be accepted into their Officer Candidate School. Girl's always gotta have options, right?

Still waiting..

And wondering what is going on, that's okay, I'm not being stagnant, I'm working on packing up the rest of my house and continuing planning the move. I'm hoping...hoping that I will depart Tucson on Sunday (yes, this Sunday). I'm really anxious to get out of here already!

In weight loss news I'm down 12lbs since starting Nutrisystem, all-in-all my parents are going to see about a 24lb weight loss since I last saw them at Christmas. I can't wait for their reaction. I feel so much better now and am still seeing my definition take more shape everyday. I joined a gym on a two-week free pass and have been Spinning; I did a lot of this in England and it's amazing how it just makes you feel so powerful during and after the class. The only way I can describe this is euphoric--if you've never been Spinning, I highly recommend it! I've also been doing workouts at the gym combining weights and cardio. I forgot how much I have missed the gym and can't wait to get my mom hooked on it too when I move to Dallas. Getting back into this groove really makes me think about going back to school to become a Dietician. I'm really knowledgeable about food and nutrition and great at preaching it, what I'm working on is practicing what I preach. I've thought about this for a number If for some reason the Air Force does not work out, I'm definitely going to pursue another Masters degree and then continue on and become a Personal Trainer as well; talk about a double threat!

I'm still off of sugar since Lent; I'm amazed that I was so addicted to sugar I would just binge a lot of the time and while those 40 days of Lent was definitely NOT the easiest thing I've ever done, I don't have the cravings any longer. I enjoy having my Nutrisystem treat at night and sometimes I don't even crave it or really want the sweets, I just eat it because it's on the plan. What an amazing transformation. I really can't get over that, I used to be a girl who had to have dessert EVERY single day and would eat chocolate several times a day.

In any event, I'm still looking for jobs, hopefully something comes through soon.

Phoenix...

I guess I should mention I DID in fact go to Phoenix for my physical. It went well and I met lots of really great people (and stayed at a SUPER nice hotel). Yes, I am physically qualified to be in the service, so that long day (4:00am-3:30pm) was totally worth it. Like I said, I met some really great people whom I hope to keep in touch with while they continue their journeys through their branches of service, all of them are going enlisted so they have a much quicker process than I do (jealous) and their pretty much guaranteed a spot as long as their drug tests come back clean.

In any event, I have two more steps to go through, I just hope I can get through them as quickly as possible so I can go in already!

Military...

Right now I'm working on getting my package together for the Air Force; this includes an application with a lot of previous employment information as well past residences. I am also working on my letters of recommendation; right now I have five that I'm going to submit to the board for consideration. It's looking like it will take several months up to a year to get into the Air Force. I'm optimistic, I know it will take time but I'm excited to get the process rolling.

I also have to go to the hospital to get a physical; get my blood drawn and check to make sure I'm healthy enough to serve. I'm not sure when any of this will take place, but I'm READY! Sign me up! I ordered the Air Force Officer's Guide from Amazon and got it in the mail, so I'm going to prepare myself for the things that I don't know about the Air Force. It's going to be interesting, I've seen the other two sides of the Air Force, being a dependent child and a dependent spouse and I think those two experiences can only help me succeed.

I've been running although I definitely need to step it up; maybe when I get to Dallas I can sign up for a 5K with my sister and that will give us motivation to get healthy (and get my running in order!)

I'll continue to keep you all updated and see what's next and how long it's going to take!
Edit: Awww, just talked to my sister. Told her about the 5K idea and she said she'd rather walk at a brisk pace. When I told her we're gonna run, she said, "If you can do it, I can do it." Way to go Sis! :)

Victory is mine

I DID IT! I got my AFOQT scores today and found out that they are sufficient enough to continue through the process. YES!!! I'm going into the Air Force!!

At this moment..

I have a week from Thursday until I take the AFOQT. I have so much stress and anxiety, I feel like I'm going to take it tomorrow...I also feel like I want to cry, scream, and vomit. I have been studying for this for almost a month now. I want to get it over but at the same time I want more time. This will be the hardest part of the journey of getting into the Air Force and I don't like this much anxiety; at the same time, is it healthy? When you want something this much, I suppose it's natural to stress and freak out. I'm taking next Wednesday off; I'm going to treat it as a normal day (exercising, walking dogs, etc) except the TV will be turned off and I'm going to do last minute review. At 8pm, I'm DONE studying. No more. Thursday morning at 7am (ACK!) is testing day. I'm going to eat a healthy breakfast and remember to breathe at the same time. I can do this...

In other news, I've lost 3lbs thus far! I haven't been 100% with the Nutrisystem so I think this is a good accomplishment. I bought some running shoes yesterday and went running today with the girls. I can't wait to get over that beginner's run..ugh, not fun! I can't wait till I'm just soaring along on a runner's high. I'm mentally preparing myself for becoming an officer in all different aspects--health wise, and projecting for the future.

I'm scared as hell, but that's just because I want this so bad. I'm just so grateful that God has shown me that this is the path He wants me on.. I'm not going to let Him down. Pray for me please! :)

Just slap me with some reality..

Never thought I would be like this, but I am thisclose to packing up my stuff and saying "Adios" to Tucson and "Hello" Dallas. I am so frustrated at this point, I just need something to happen! I'm not the type of girl to be like, "Hey Mom and Dad, can I live with you for a while while I get my crap sorted?" This is ESPECIALLY since I don't have a job down there...yet. Doesn't mean I'm not working on it!

A small ray of hope for today, I'm seriously considering joining the Air Force and becoming an Officer; I was an AF brat my entire life and was married to the military for over 6 years..I think I would be a great candidate and would enjoy my time in. Especially in this economy, you cannot ask for better job security (and benefits) than being a military officer; I spoke with a recruiter today and they administer the AFOQT the first Thursday of the month which means I need to get ON it if I want to test in March. On my lunch break today I'm going to get my study guides and study study study. This is not the first time I have thought of joining; I was first thinking about it when I graduated with my Bachelors but then decided to go on and get my Masters degree; the second time was last year and I didn't take the test because I got the other job with the county. (HA!)

This seems like my only way out at this point, if I don't hear something from the county or Dallas soon, I'm definitely going to work my @$$ off to get into the military and for the first time, I'm deathly serious and really excited. I guess we'll see how things go! Obviously this screws with my plans of traveling the States for a year (boo) but at this stage of the game, I need experience and a secure job.
